| 246. Hornbill Ivory Suspended Snuff Bottle, Chinese circa 19th Century
Rare example of a suspended hornbill ivory snuff bottle. The inside of the bottle is hollowed out, but the lack of the wood spoon on the stopper suggests that it was made exclusively for aesthetic purposes. Outstanding workmanship is demonstrated in the details of the carving's birds and flowers. The back and the front of the bottle are inscribed with the artistÂ’s name and seal, with a dedication in archaic script. The bottle is suspended by two chains, each carved from the solid and linked to a hanger, the whole being suspended in a fine frame. Measures approx. 2-3/4" 1-3/4" x 1/2". 300/600 Sold $931.50 back to catalog |
