99. John Linnell (English, 1792 - 1882)

"Warkworth Castle". Pencil drawing on paper; titled on the lower right corner; signed "John Linnel" on the back. Matted, not framed. Measures approx. 9-1/2" x 13-5/8". In 1805 he entered the Royal Academy School, becoming a pupil of John Varley, and participating in the naturalist movement of the early 19th Century, making oil sketches from nature along the Thames with William Henry Hunt and William Mulready. This appears to be a sketch done on the scene.
