67. Mark Kremer (Russian, born 1928)

"Rotonda". Oil on canvas, signed "M. K." on the lower right corner, also signed and dated on verso in Cyrillic. Decorative gilt wood frame; matted. Image measures approx. 15-1/2" x 19-1/4"; framed overall approx. 24" x 28". Mark Kremer was born in St. Petersburg, Russia (1928) into a family of artists. His father was a painter, which brought out his talent for painting. Mark Kremer graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts named after Il`ia Repin). Today Mark Kremer is one of the most talented masters of modern Russian fine arts (a member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Merited Artist of Russia). The artist paints landscapes, still life, portraits and thematic paintings. His landscapes bring out the beauty of Russia’s midland, give a sense of the country’s vastness. The landscapes of Mark Kremer are executed in the traditions of Russian landscape painters; among them Kuinji, Boris-Musatov, and Rylov. Highly indicative of his work are still life compositions and so-called “windows”. Windows of Mark Kremer are “windows opened into the world”.
