177. Kaiko Moti (Indian, 1921 - 1989)

"Tree". Offset lithograph on paper, hand signed and numbered 33/100 on the lower right corner. Wood frame; matted under glass. Image measures approx. 21" x 28-1/2", framed overall approx. 31" x 38". Kaiko Moti was born in 1921 in Bombay, India. He attended the School of Fine Art, later he went to study art in London. He worked under MacWilliam and Reginald Butler. After moving permanently to Paris in 1950, he studied sculpture for three years with Zadkine, however, because of lack of space and the difficulties of working in Paris, Moti turned from sculpture to engraving, studying with W.S. Hayter. Since then, he has been primarily noted as an engraver working on copper plates. His work has been shown virtually throughout the world, including in the Biennale in Venice, the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, the New York Public Library, and the New Delhi Museum of Art. Moti is represented in the permanent collections of many major museums and galleries, among them the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Paris Musee d'Art Moderne, and Le Bibliotheque Nationale. He is an honorary member of the Academy of Florence.
