| 367. Pillar Dollar, Mexico 1734
"Pillar Dollar" or "Piece of Eight" minted in 1734. Foreign coins were heavily used by the early settlers in New England, especially the coins minted in Spanish colonies in South America. The names for the coin come from the design on the front of the coin, which features two pillars flanking two globes, and the fact that this coin was worth eight Spanish reales. Measures approx. 1-1/2" in diameter. 150/200 Sold $299.00 back to catalog |
