"Le Politicard". Illustration from the "Les Réincarnations du Pere Ubu" by Ambroise Vollard, circa 1932. Etching on thick paper, with watermark "La Sentation de Sain Antoine" below the image, not framed. Image measures approx. 11-1/2" x 7-1/2"; paper measures approx. 17" x 13". French expressionist and religious painter, Georges Rouault was originally trained as a stained glass designer, but later continued to study at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. Being a devoted Catholic, he concentrated a lot on the religious and Biblical themes in his artwork.
