"Mint Canyon - Windy Day". Oil on canvas over board, signed "H. R. Butler" on the lower right corner. An attractive panoramic scene in the desert with a sandy road winding through the scene. Framed in a bronze gilded frame with ornate corner ornaments in the Arts and Crafts style. Howard Russell Butler studied at Princeton and Columbia Law School, before he became a full-time artist. For some time his interests were painting solstices and California landscapes. This painting is a good example of the latter.
