65. Late 18th century Chinese Bowl

This footed bowl is decorated with the Ming palette of five color glazes, popular in the second half of the seventeenth century.

The red and black opaque enamels are used for outlining the drawings, while the transparent enamels have flowed during the firing process. There is minor gold decoration used to hightlight hair ornaments and jewlery. The bowl has a scene of a family at play. The interior rim is decorated with a border in red and black opaque enamel. The center bowl has a rose. There is a halo or iridescence around the flower as well as the figures. The porcelain bowl measures 7 1/8"W x 3 1/2"H. Overall size, approximately 12"W x 8 3/4"H. Not inspected out of ormolu.
