216. John Hall Thorpe (British, 1874 - 1947)
A lovely pair of woodcut prints. "Forget-me-nots" and "Crocus." Published by Hall Thorpe, London. Copyright U.S.A 1922. Each image measures approx. 6-1/2" x 6" 10-1/2" x 9". John Thorpe was a leading woodcut artist of the early twentieth century. Most of his woodcuts were created between 1920 and 1927 and were widely collected for both their superb colourations and strong Art Deco forms. He published all the prints himself.

"Amboise, 1917". Mixed media on paper, framed under glass, signed in pencil, titled and dated in lower right corner, 19" x 13-1/2" image size, with frame 23" x 17". Travis had a retrospective of works at the Cleveland Artists' Foundation in 2002. He was a well-known Cleveland artist and art teacher, who's works often depict scenes from the many countries to which he traveled.
