79. George Wells (British, 1842 - 1888)
"Love Me, Love My Dog". Oil on canvas, signed lower left, framed in a gold-tone antique frame with heavily detailed ornamentation, 31" x 22" canvas size, with frame 37-1/2" x 28". A lovely young lady is depicted in late 19th Century attire, holding a beloved Jack Russell Terrier within a wooded setting. Part of the narrative is the gold locket she wears, though the actual significance of the locket is unknown. A hand-lettered plaque on the lower center of the frame bears the artist's name and title. George Wells is most known for known for painting genre, landscapes, rivers, portraits, lakes, nymphs and flowers. He was a founding member of the Royal College of Artists formed and endowed by Queen Victoria. That is what RCA means on the name plate.

A Snowy Winter Scene in Prague. Oil on canvas, mounted onto masonite, signed in lower right corner, framed. Canvas size is 16" x 20", with "Impressionist" finish frame 21" x 24-1/2". The wintry scene depicts a bridge in a Northern European city, with many spires seen in the distance. It is thickly painted in grey tones with citron accents, conveying the mood of the day as cold but not gloomy.

88. Constantine Kluge (French, 1912 - 2003)
"Le Quai de Louvre". Oil on canvas, signed "C. Kluge" on the lower right corner, in a gold leafed frame, with a title and name plaque on the linen liner. Image measures approx. 28" x 38-1/2", framed overall approx. 36" x 47". Constantine Kluge was born in Riga, Latvia in 1912. After the October 1917 Revolution in Russia, his family had to flee the country. The family moved eastward until they settled in French part of Shanghai, where Kluge went to a French school. Afterwards, Kludge went to Paris to study architecture; however, while in Paris Kluge painted a lot of street scenes to retain them in his memories. Upon returning to Shanghai, Kluge practiced architecture for a short while before devoting himself fully to painting. Constantine Kluge eventually moved to Paris, where he had great success at the Paris Salon. In 1962 he won Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Francais France and in 1990 he received The Legion d'Honneur France.

"Sea Shore." Oil on board, signed on the lower right corner, framed in a grey-stained wood frame; oatmeal mat. Board measures approx. 12" x 16"; framed overall approx. 16-1/2" x 20-1/2." Bernard Lennon was born in Milton, Massachusetts, in 1914, and studied at The Massachusetts School of Art. He later lived and was active in New York City, and in Gaylordsville, Connecticut, where he mentored students in Contemporary Impressionism. Some of his students continue to live and paint in the Gaylordsville area. He exhibited at The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York.

An older woman in peasant attire huddles before a small fire in a large fireplace. There is a curtained window through which snowy roofs seen outside. The narrative is completed by the appointments of the interior, including a pendulum wall clock, copper and pewter kitchen implements, and a ladderback chair.
