Signed and dated ('13); exhibition label on the back of the painting, which gives the date for the painting (Art Association of Montreal, 1913). A similar view of Montreal Harbour can be found in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.

Asian woman in a kimono. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Canvas size approx. 23-1/2" x 31-1/2". Overall in wood frame approx. 31" x 38-1/2". Endre studied at the School of Model Drawing, then in Munich and at Nagybanya. He studied under Ede Ballo, Simon Hollosy and Gyula Benczur. In 1918 he had a retrospective exhibition in the National Salon. His works may be found in the Hungarian National Gallery.

Locomotive. Oil on artist's board, signed lower left. Image size approx. 27-1/4" x 39-1/4", overall with original painted wood frame approx. 35" x 47". The National Technical Museum in Prague organized an exhibition of Kreibich's pictures of locomotives. His work may be found in the National Gallery in Prague (under the name Vaclav Kreibich). Most of Kreibich's works are in private collections, the National Technical Museum in Prague, and the Skoda Works in Plzen.

Cowles exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum and had over forty one-person shows, won many awards including a prize in the 1938 World's Fair in New York and a medal in 1925 from the Art Institute of Chicago.

A Dutch domestic scene, the genre of which has maintained popularity for many years, of a young mother attending to her two small girls. It is a universally charming subject that many artists have specialized in, this being one of the more accomplished artists of the genre.

"View From Bearsville." Oil on canvas, signed "Allen D. Cochran" on the lower right corner, framed in a wood frame with black and gilt detailing, signed and titled on verso. Image measures approx. 12" x 10"; framed overall approx. 15" x 13". Allen Dean Cochran was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and received his art training from two notable members of the National Academy: Kenyon Cox of Ohio and Birge Harrison of Woodstock. Later in life Cochran moved from Ohio to Woodstock where he became a member of the Woodstock Artists Association. He exhibited with that group and at the National Academy, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He was also a member of the Salmagundi Club.

Cowboy and wild horses. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Canvas approx. 24" x 36". In a painted wood frame approx. 32" x 44". Viski studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Tivadar Zemplenyi. He made study tours to France and several towns of South America. He started exhibiting his paintings in about 1913. He painted mainly animals and was interested in the problems of motion and form as well as the color effects of outdoor light. His most frequent model was the horse.

"Love Me, Love My Dog". Oil on canvas, signed lower left, framed in a gold-tone antique frame with heavily detailed ornamentation, 31" x 22" canvas size, with frame 37-1/2" x 28". A lovely young lady is depicted in late 19th Century attire, holding a beloved Jack Russell Terrier within a wooded setting. Part of the narrative is the gold locket she wears, though the actual significance of the locket is unknown. A hand-lettered plaque on the lower center of the frame bears the artist's name and title. George Wells is most known for known for painting genre, landscapes, rivers, portraits, lakes, nymphs and flowers.  He was a founding member of the Royal College of Artists formed and endowed by Queen Victoria. That is what RCA means on the name plate.

The wintry scene depicts a bridge in a Northern European city, with many spires seen in the distance. It is thickly painted in grey tones with citron accents, conveying the mood of the day as cold but not gloomy.

The background has a warm palette, and the patterns flow easily around the picture plane. Kontuly along with his wive, Hajnalka Fusch, studied in Rome. He is considered to be on of Hungary's finest 20th Century artists.

Albert Pels was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He studied at the Cincinnati Academy of Art and the University of Cincinnati. While in New York, Pels studied with with Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League.

88. Constantine Kluge (French, 1912 - 2003)


"Le Quai de Louvre". Oil on canvas, signed "C. Kluge" on the lower right corner, in a gold leafed frame, with a title and name plaque on the linen liner. Image measures approx. 28" x 38-1/2", framed overall approx. 36" x 47". Constantine Kluge was born in Riga, Latvia in 1912. After the October 1917 Revolution in Russia, his family had to flee the country. The family moved eastward until they settled in French part of Shanghai, where Kluge went to a French school. Afterwards, Kludge went to Paris to study architecture; however, while in Paris Kluge painted a lot of street scenes to retain them in his memories. Upon returning to Shanghai, Kluge practiced architecture for a short while before devoting himself fully to painting. Constantine Kluge eventually moved to Paris, where he had great success at the Paris Salon. In 1962 he won Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Francais France and in 1990 he received The Legion d'Honneur France.
