Mary Magdalene Weeping. Oil on copper plate, unsigned, approx. 6-1/2" x 4-3/4". Mary with emblematic long hair, holding a crucifix with tears streaming down her cheek. Her grief is very well conveyed in her vacant stare and her wan posture.

St. George Slaying the Dragon. Oil on board, titled on Cyrillic across the top border. A personal devotion, candle burn on panel. Image painted within border, highly stylized and beautiful. Verso has two wood supports to keep panel flat. Approx. 21" x 17". Edge of panel has nail holes evident from previous holder or frame. Purchased from The Maria Andipa Icon Gallery, London.

41. Francesco Coleman (Italian, 1851 - 1918)
"Dieu et mon Droit " (God and my right), the motto of England. Probably a portrait of Queen Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. A tour de force historical painting with numerous charmingly painted areas of interest; "They came for Anne on the morning of May 19th, 1536 to take her to the Tower Green, where she was to be afforded the dignity of a private execution. She wore a red petticoat under a loose, dark grey gown of damask trimmed in fur. Over that she was a mantle of ermine. Her long, dark hair was bound up under a simple white linen coif over which she wore her usual headdress" (Tudorhistory.org) Framed in a Barbizon pattern frame finished in metal leaf (probably restored), canvas size approx. 25" x 36".

"The Forbidden Book." 19th century oil on canvas, signed on the lower left on a rail of the chair "D. Maclise". Canvas measures approx. 20" x 16". Very nice decorative frame; measures approx. 25" x 20". It is documented that Maclise exhibited a painting titled "The Poet and his Wife", item 236, London 1861, listed in "The Royal Academy of Arts" 1769-1904, pages 152-157. It is possible that this is the painting referenced. Daniel Maclise was a member of Royal Academy. Hon. member "The Scottish Academy" 1866. "E. Benezit" Vol. 5, pg. 681; "The Royal Scottish Academy" 1826-1916, Kingsmead, pg. 258.

48. Jules-Charles Rozier (French, 1821 - 1882)
Untitled riverscape. Oil on panel, signed "Jules Rozier" on the lower right corner, framed in a gilt frame; matted. Image measures approx. 15" x 13-3/4"; framed overall approx. 20" x 19". Rozier was a student of Bertin and Delaroche; he specialized in rural landscapes, seascapes, and riverscapes from the banks of the river Seine in Normandy. He is part of the French Naturalist tradition made famous by the School of Barbizon. From 1839 to 1882 Rozier exhibited at the Salon De Paris.

Portrait of a little girl. Oil on canvas, inscribed with the artists name and dated March 1850 on verso, not framed. Measures approx. 22" x 25". In the customary manner for a primitive-style painting, the little girl is shown with her hair parted in the middle (boys were also depicted in dresses, but with hair parted on the side) She clutches the feminine symbols of flowers before her.

55. Jeanette Agnew Lyon (American, Ohio, born 1862)
Port Scene with Moored Sailboat. Oil on canvas over paperboard (canvasboard), signed lower right corner, framed, 14" x 10" canvasboard size, with frame 22" x 18". A late afternoon scene depicting sailboats moored at a dock and a city coastline across the water. Jeanette Agnew Lyon studied at the Académie Julian, Paris, her specialty was landscape painting. She was also a member of the Cleveland Women's AC.

56. William Trost Richards (American, 1833 - 1905)
Hudson River landscape of a sunrise with an atmospheric perspective. Oil on academy board, signed lower left. Offered in a gilt frame with a liner. Panel size approx. 6-1/4" x 9-1/4". William Trost Richards studied with Paul Weber. Later around 1952 he continued his studies in Florence, Rome, and Paris, all during his traveling with William Stanley Haseltine and Alex Lawrie. Upon returning to Philadelphia he continued to paint landscapes, and later on concentrated on seascapes, for which he is most famous now. His works are in collections of Brooklyn Museum, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, NYC; Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC; Newark Museum, NJ; and Shelburne Museum, NYC.
