A striking carving of the Madonna, hollow carved wood, detailed carving on robes, face and hair. She is standing on a serpent, crushing him while an apple is in his mouth. Sun beached wood with evidence of gesso and pigment. Approx. 41"T.

Carved with a Roman style tonsure, with extended arms and flowing robes, raised over a carved base with scrolling foliage and a bead and reel motif. Evidence of pigment over gesso. Approx. 22-1/4"T. Tags on bottom of base and figure.

277. A Carved Jade Pre-Columbian Style Mask, ca. 19th Century
Finely carved, mottled black stone, probably serpentine, of an expressive and naturalistic form. Face has full, parted lips, slightly down turned, recessed eyes with slight furrowed brow and aquiline nose. Side of face have dimensional monkeys with tails curling over the forehead.
