"Sea Shore." Oil on board, signed on the lower right corner, framed in a grey-stained wood frame; oatmeal mat. Board measures approx. 12" x 16"; framed overall approx. 16-1/2" x 20-1/2." Bernard Lennon was born in Milton, Massachusetts, in 1914, and studied at The Massachusetts School of Art. He later lived and was active in New York City, and in Gaylordsville, Connecticut, where he mentored students in Contemporary Impressionism. Some of his students continue to live and paint in the Gaylordsville area. He exhibited at The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, New York.

An older woman in peasant attire huddles before a small fire in a large fireplace. There is a curtained window through which snowy roofs seen outside. The narrative is completed by the appointments of the interior, including a pendulum wall clock, copper and pewter kitchen implements, and a ladderback chair.

A serene pastoral scene with two cows; one with a milkmaid seated near, in the late afternoo. Thickly painted in an early 20th Century, Impressionistic manner. The artist's name is inscribed on the stretchers, along with " Rode Koer 1921" and a second line which is illegible, in pencil.
