855. German Beer Stein, circa mid-20th Century Brown ceramic beer stein features several pictorial and text cartouches. The large hand decorated cartouche with three people sitting around the table enjoying spirits and music is surrounded by a forest scene with deer cartouche above and a Star of David below. Each side features accent cartouches with text on top and scenes with medieval hunter's resting. Flower vines and scrolls accent space between the cartouches. Verso inscribed "Gesetzl geschutzt", which is a short form for Gesetzlich Geschutzt which indicates that the piece was a German registered design. This mark is usually found on items manufactured between 1890 and the end of WWII. Overall measures approx. 10-1/2" x 5". 100/150 Sold: $132.25 |
