251. William Edward Ward (American/Cleveland School, born 1922)

Triptych of ships. Watercolor on paper, not framed, all measure approx. 14" x 11".

William Edward Ward was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 4th, 1922. Studied at the Western Reserve University, where he graduated from in 1948 with the Master's of Arts degree. He continued his education at the Cleveland Institute of Art, receiving a diploma in 1947, and later graduated from Columbia University in 1950. He worked at the Cleveland Museum of Art; Akron Art Institute, Ohio; Cleveland Art Association; Cleveland Trust Bank. His commissions include: Firemen's Memorial Sculpture, Cleveland Fire Department, 1968. Designed the official seal for School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Exhibitions and one-man shows include: Painting and photography, Cleveland Institute of Art, 1948; Acrylic and watercolors at the Ross Widen Gallery Cleveland, 1973. Cleveland Institute of Art Faculty Exhibitions, throughout the 1960's. William Ward's works are in the permanent collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Some of the awards for his work include First Prize in Textile design, Cleveland Museum of Art May Show, 1957, Cleveland Cleveland Area Arts Council, 1975.
