277. A Carved Jade Pre-Columbian Style Mask, ca. 19th Century

Finely carved, mottled black stone, probably serpentine, of an expressive and naturalistic form. Face has full, parted lips, slightly down turned, recessed eyes with slight furrowed brow and aquiline nose. Side of face have dimensional monkeys with tails curling over the forehead. Suspension loops at the temples behind these figures. Apprx
