497. Japy Freres Gilt Brass Figural Mantel Clock, French, ca. late 19th Century
An elegant Empire figurative mantle clock depicts a seated young woman offering her drink to an eagle. The eagle rests atop of the clock dial and an ewer decorated with grapevines is to the left of the dial. The porcelain dial features Roman numerals and hand-painted flower garlands and gilt accents. Gilt scroll handles are applied to the sides. The base of the clock decorated with gilt ormolu and hand decorated porcelain plaques and rests on scroll feet. Maker's mark behind the bell on the movement. Winding key included. Overall this clock measures approx. 13" x 19" x 6".

An antique wooden keepsake box in the shape of a large book. Sides are made from a rich warm brown wood with natural striations, lid, bottom, and spine are made from crotch matched burlwood. Hinges and escutcheon are oxidized brass. Lacking a key. Interior of lid has a mirror and beaded wood detailed framing, the balance of the interior is covered in a medium blue silk with gold silk cording trim at the edges. Overall 14" x 12-1/2" x 3"H. A very handsome decorative object.

511. A Handsome Baton in a Presentation Box
A handsome baton in its original presentation box. The baton shaft is of wood with a sleek black lacquer finish, 19-1/2" long. The top is a hand-worked relief knob in silver metal that is not marked; there are two pyramidical motifs, one surmounted by a small cross, surrounded by folliate designs, the top surmounted by a rococo cartouche with no engraving. The bottom tip is a simple rounded cap of the same metal, unembellished. The accompanying presentation box is covered in a brown diamond-textured paper and closes with two small brass latches. The interior is covered in blue velvet which has faded from light exposure. The interior of the hinges are covered with cream satin ribbon with frayed edges.

The cigar holder is decorated with a pierced gold band and a gold insert on the tip. The gold band appears to have a European gold mark. The cigar holder comes in a vintage Tiffany & Co Paris silk lined box. Overall the holder measures approx. 4-3/4" long, and the box measures approx. 9" long. The flattened tapering body of a parasol handle features a carved decoration of a man holding a monogrammed family plaque. Metal screw at the narrow end. Without the screw measures approx. 9-5/8" long.
