491. Japy Freres Mantle Clock & Garniture Set, French ca. late 19th Century
This French garniture has a cream color marble body and bronze mounts and decorations. Porcelain dial with pierced overlay and a hinged glass door; chimes on hour and half-hour. Decorative urn with bronze base and marble bowl rests atop of the timepiece. Front of the clock is embellished with bronze ormolu. Handles on the sides. The movement within the clock is stamped with the name "Japy Freres & Co." included are pendulum and key. Accompanying the clock are two decorative candelabras, fitted for five candles each. The candelabras are decorated in the same style as the clock, with bronze ormolu. Both the clock and candelabras feature paw feet. Trances of gilt on the ormolu suggest the original design featured gilding. The clock measures approx. 18" x 14" x 7" and the candelabras approx. 26" tall. Japy Freres was a well-known clock making company in France in the late 1800's.
