183. Unknown Artist (American, 20th Century)
Female nude. Oil on canvasboard, no signature found, framed in a contemporary wood frame with a linen liner, canvasboard size 16" x 11-3/4", with frame overall 20-1/4" x 16-1/4". This dainty original illustration of a young nude poses provocatively on a red drape. She is lit from behind with a glowing evening-like blue light, and partially from the front. Her face glows with underlighting. She appears to be caught unawares in nothing but her mules. The image is consistent with "girlie" illustrations of the 1940's-1050's.

A movie projectionist is seen through the small opening to his projection booth while an usherette rests against a railing in the balcony. Coils of film float about indicating the dream quality of this vivid composition. The artist has titled and signed the canvas on the tacking margin on verso.

The artist has affixed stickers to the backs of each stating that they are painted in Liquitex pigments and the frames were painted to match in the same pigments. (This type of acrylic artist's pigments first rose to popularity around the late 1960's.)
