| 869. Jadeite Carving of Kuan Yin with a Child
Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy, to whom women prayed to for babies, traditionally for a baby boy. Hence Kuan Yin as the child giver came to be depicted with a baby boy either in her arms or beside her. This is a very good example of such depiction. Pale green nephrite with reddish yellow coloring skillfully incorporated in to the carving to accent Kuan Yin's hair, child's hat and umbrella. No marks found. Measures approx. 6" x 4". 250/500 Sold $80.50 back to catalog |
