| 418. Attr: Walter Sinz (American, Cleveland, 1881-1966) or Francis Luis Mora (1874-1940)
"Carmen". A large glazed ceramic sculpture with hand painted polychrome decoration, with the title on the side of the self-base, also "29", also with artist's initial (?) below the title, 21" H x 7-1/2" W x 6-1/2" D. A whimsical interpretation of the infamous temptress. Walter Sinz studied at the Cleveland School of Art and later taught there. At one time he also studied at the famous Academie Julian in Paris. He retired from teaching in 1952 to devote himself to sculpture commissions. He exhibited work at the Cleveland Museum of Art May Shows for many years, and also designed sculpture for Cowan Pottery Studios. Francis Luis Mora was the son of the Spanish sculptor Domingo Mora and studied under his father before attending the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School and the Art Students League. Mora was an illustrator and muralist whose work reflected a blend of Spanish and Modern American influence. 1,500/3,000 Sold $1,437.50 back to catalog |
