| 166. Charles de Feo (American, 1892-1978)
"Cassandra". Oil on canvas in black, blue, red and white pigments, original illustration, signed in the lower right corner, framed in a contemporary frame, canvas size 18-1/4" x 20", with frame overall 25-1/2" x 27-1/4". There are several inscriptions on the verso of the canvas including "Page 15 February". The others are mostly illegible and appear to be printer's instructions. Cassandra is one of the better-known figures in Greek mythology. She was given the ability to see the future, but because she refused the attentions of the god Apollo, the angered god changed her gift so that none believed her prophecies. The legend involves the Trojan war and her warnings that went unheeded. 1,000/2,000 Sold $2,357.50 back to catalog |
