263. After Henri Eugene Le Sidaner (French, 1862-1939)

"La Ronde". Lithograph on blue paper, signed in the stone, paper size 9-7/8" x 13-5/8", with matting and framed under glass 17-1/4" x 21-1/4". The frame is a rounded corner silver tone frame with corner ornaments. From L'Estampe Moderne, ca. 1897-1899.

These brightly colored lithographed posters are from L'Estampe Moderne published under the supervision of C. Masson and H. Piazza in Paris in 1897-1899. This famous collection included works by major art nouveau artists including Alphonse Mucha, Louis Rhead, Marcel Lenoir, Henri Boutet, Henri Fantin-Latour, Edward Burne-Jones, and Théophile Steinlen. The intention of this work was to "reanimate and disseminate the taste for prints". Every print has the blind stamp of a woman's profile in the bottom right corner. So popular was this collection, that even Les Maîtres de l'Affiche, another well-known poster publication, was surpassed by the beauty of L'Estampe Moderne's large format on excellent quality paper that measures 12" x 16".
