462. An early 19th Century Silk Embroidery

A wonderful picture of a small girl entirely embroidered in silk thread. This meticulously embroidered picture, ca. 1810, shows a smiling child carrying a basket of fruit, shown in a landscape. A small dog peeks from her gathered up apron and another nips at her hem. She stands next to an intricately embroidered tree with vines and foliage and a forest can be seen in the distance to the right. Her bonnet is tied to her waist. This embroidery is done with crisp detailing an a great deal of skill. It is framed in an older 1-1/2" wide coved frame with a rubbed gilt finish. and a painted outside. The sight size is 11" x 7-3/4"; with frame the overall size is 13-3/4" x 10-3/4". This genre of embroidered picture were worked by women, most usually copying a painting or a print of a painting.
