Illuminated manuscript leaf painted on thick vellum. A powerful and passionate rendering by a very good Ethiopic artist working in the highly stylized Ethiopic tradition. Verso are two columns of script in red and black ink. Written in Ethiopic Ge"ez script in a clearly justified space. Ge"ez is a semitic language that is no longer spoken, but still used for liturgical purposes by the Ethiopic Orthodox Church. Overall approx. 11" x 8-3/4".
