Hand Illuminated Vellum Page. An illuminated royal escutcheon of the Alonso family, which is comprised of a red lion with golden bars on a field of silver. There is also a watercolor vignette landscape which surrounds the illuminated gold initial "Y". Calligraphy is on the face of the page as well as verso. The text is part of a Certificate of Noble Origin which gives the right to bear this coat of arms as a resident of Pueblo de Los Angelos in California (then called New Spain). Vellum size is 11-5/8" x 7-3/4". 500/700 back to catalog |
