86. Vald Andersen (Danish, ca. 1929)
A crisp and misty winter woodland scene. Oil on canvas, signed in the lower left corner and dated 1929, framed, 26" x 19" canvas size, with framing overall 29-1/4" x 22-3/4". A path has been plowed through the deep snow at the right of the composition, apparently by a sleigh or a cart, with footprints through the center. The barren mossy trees are snow covered and fade into the mists. Note the white highlighting on the signature appears to have been dusted with frost.

89. Barbizon School Figural Painting
A dramatic composition with three nude figures. Oil on canvas, illegibly inscribed at the lower left corner and dated illegibly, framed in a newer frame with a dark bronze-tone finish, 19-3/4" x 23-1/2" canvas size, with framing overall 27" x 31-1/4". The central figure is semi-reclining with red drapery behind her and white flowing down off of the seat. Two dark figures attend her at either side; none of the faces are visible. Although the mysterious composition has a very narrative quality, the story is now obscured.

101. Beni E. Kosh (African/American, 1917-1993)
"Jeu Deux" or "Play Two". Oil on board signed and dated lower right 1965. Yellow background in graduated tones support a musical motif in grey tones. Framed, overall apprx 12-1/4" x 16-1/4". Born as Charles Elmer Harris in Cleveland Ohio, he changed his name in the 1960's, which translates to "Son of Ethiopia". He rarely exhibited or sold his work and was affiliated with the African-American artists' "Sho-nuff Art Group" and the Karamu House and studied under Cleveland Artist Paul Travis. His style is very diverse and he experimented with Cubism, portraiture and abstractions in series. He received little recognition during his lifetime and was only "rediscovered" literally days after his death when hundreds of his paintings were rescued by an art dealer.

Egg tempera on tempered masonite panel, signed in the lower right corner with copyright mark, floated in a contemporary barnwood finished frame over a black wood background, board size 12" x 16", with framing overall 17-3/4" x 21-1/4". Mowery is a graduate of the Choinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. His works are in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art.
