74. Alex Kortner (American, 20th Century) A recumbent nude. Oil on canvas, circa 1969, signed in the lower right, framed, canvas size 8" x 10", with framing overall 15" x 17". An undated photocopy of a newspaper article about the artist is taped to the back of the frame. Kortner was originally from the Pittsburgh area and studied at the Pittsburgh Art Institute. He studied art also at the Chicago Art Institute, and developed a career in advertising art in New York city. The advertising work afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively and paint scenes from his travels. He preferred to paint his fine art works to the restrictions of commissioned advertising work, though his illustrations appeared in many national magazines such as Colliers and Popular Mechanics. In 1964 he opened the Delray Art Center in Delray Beach, Florida, and taught and worked there until his retirement. 300/500 Sold: $299.00 |
