The bottles are of flattened ovoid form; one of the bottles features carved bird design and the other a woman playing a flute. Green, possibly nephrite, stone and metal stoppers with attached spoons. No marks found. Measures approx. 2"T x 2-3/4"W x 5/8"D.

A tapered and rounded form with carved "handles" on the shoulders of an animal face with ring handles. Hollowed out base, no foot. Possibly an agate stopper top with gold or brass fitting. Apprx 3-1/2"T with stopper x 1-3/4"W. On display in the Pittsburgh PA gallery.

Red lacquer snuff bottle with a base metal, material built up and then carved. Scene depicts three scholars and a student. Elaborate rock work on the shoulders, with matching stopper. Small stepped foot. Apprx 2-5/8"T x 2"W. Purchased in London from Hugh Moss, circa early 1970's.

Enamel on copper, squat form bottle with metal topped stopper. Beautiful and detail painting of two ladies resting in a garden setting with their spaniel dogs. Top and base have brass fitting, bottle has Chinese blue marks. Apprx 2-3/8"T with stopper x 1-11/16"W. On display in the Pittsburgh PA gallery.

957. "The Eight Horses of Muhang" Painted Porcelain Snuff Bottle, ca. Qianlong Period, 1800-1880


Molded porcelain snuff bottle with the Qianlong Nianzhi mark in iron red on bottom. Each horse is uniquely decorated with the horses jumping, grazing, playing and rolling on the ground. Rock formations, flowers and tress throughout with small red fence in background. Blue enameled stopper with gilt border. Apprx 2-5/16"T x 1-3/4"W. Sold at Sotheby's New York, property of an English collector, October 12th, 1993.

Flattened ovoid shape bottle, natural inclusions of the stone were cleverly incorporated into a carved design depicting a stallion tied to a tree and a bat, the symbol of luck. Pink quartz stopper with an attached spoon. Overall this bottle measures approx. 3"T x 2-3/8"W x 3/4"L.

Carved glass with areas of translucency, in tear drop shape with carved out foot and agate stopper. Imagery of landscape with working figures carrying water and using horse-drawn cart. Deeply carved trees over mountainous background. Smooth surface overall, signed on the shoulder. Not known if mold blown and then carved, or all carved. Apprx 2-3/4"T x 2"W. Carved and molded with an overall design of Buddhist lions and tasseled brocade balls on a cloud ground between Ruyi borders. Unfinished without glaze or pigments, with carved coral stopper in metal fitting with rope edge. Small footed base with high shouldered body surmounted a delicate neck with Greek key border, flared opening. Apprx 2-3/8"T with stopper x 1-3/4"W. On display in the Pittsburgh PA gallery.
