923. A Goebel Merkelbach Stein
A glazed ceramic stein with a cast metal hinge made by Goebel, marked on the bottom "Goebel...Merkelbach...Handabreit...W. Germany". A reproduction of the one originally made ca. 1900. 9"H x 3-1/2" diameter at the widest. The stein is made in the relief shape of the bodies of sardines, laid vertically, with two kittens peeping out at their fins. The handle is a relief shape of a smiling face and the silver-tone metal handle is shaped as two dolphins. This whimsical stein is glazed in teal blue-green, red, black and brown colorations.
