Carved walnut matching chairs with seat lids, hinged for compartment use. Each with arched molded crest and anthemion cartouche above a tall carved back. Large knoped knees on round tapered front legs; back legs squared. Bulls-eye decoration, open-work decoration flanking crest. Approx. 48"H x 21"W x 19"D.

Broad top rail with unusual back splat. The supports of the arms are attached to to the side rails and are of vase form. Straight back legs with some flair, round tapered legs with raised ring decoration. Caned seat, overall painted black, polychromed in colors with slight gilt decoration. Approx. 35"T x 21"W x 21"D. Squared tapered front legs terminating to spade feet. Vase shaped arm supports attached to the front legs. Diamond shape open back splat. Straight back legs, thin top rail with pointed diamond capped ears. Very pretty inlay detailing. Mid-20th century upholstery, circa 1940's-50's. Approx. 33-1/2"T x 23-1/2"W x 19"D. 805. A Pair of Continental Carved Wood and Upholstered Chairs


A pair of antique Continental chairs, in carved walnut wood, with scrolling gadrooned exposed wood sides, exposed wood platform, straight splayed back legs and a modified pad foot front leg. The upholstery on these chairs must be replaced, but it should also be noted that originally they would have had puffy loose seat pillows conforming to the shape of the seat. The chairs measure 22-1/2"W x 21"D x 30"H. Note that the back legs are plain because the usage of these types of chairs was always in an alcove or against a wall where they would not easily be seen.
