Spine with five raised bands, title and date in gilt letters, all compartments outlined with gilt tooling. Olive green cloth endpapers. All paper edges gilt.

DJ of volume one is ripped to middle, both with tears and discolored, fair condition DJ's.

Inferior paper quality, bound in full leather with simple embossed and gilt lettering on spine. Two pages in front have paste down newspaper articles about the ban of this novel. Interior pages toned, otherwise very good.

An original hand colored map depicting the coast of the Adriatic Sea, after Jansson's "Nouvel Atlas on Theatre du Monde", pub. ca. 1650. The map is fitted into a double sided framing with the text exposed on the reverse side. The sight size of the framing is 17-1/2" x 21-1/2". With the frame overall the piece measures 19-1/2" x 23-5/8".
