933. A 17th/18th Century Chinese Porcelain Casket With Lid
A very fine and unusual 17th/18th Century Chinese porcelain casket with lid, in a rich turquoise "fish roe" crackle glaze inside and out over white porcelain, flaring rectangular in shape, on tall scrolling legs with animal faces at the knees, with fin details on the body, two handles, the lid surmounted by a Foo lion. The casket stands on a beautifully detailed carved wooden base made specifically to fit its feet. The casket measures approx. 14"H from foot to top of lion, x 9"W x 6-1/4"D. The stand measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" x 1-7/8"H.

"Covert Eight Immortals" carved ivory figures representing the eight immortals; Chang Kuo Lao- a mountain hermit riding a horse, holding a pheonix feather; Lu Tung Pin- an old sage riding a tiger, holding a whisk and sword; Tsao Kuo-Chiu- mountain hermit riding horse, holding castanets; Lan Tsai Ho-minstrel riding an elephant, holding a flower basket; Chuan Chung-Li-army general riding a chimera,
holding a feather fan; Ho Hsien-Ku-female ascetic riding a deer, holding a lotus blossom; Li Tieh-Kuai-beggar riding a chimera, holding an iron crutch; Han Hsien-Ku-mountain sage riding a buffalo, holding a magic flute.
Each beautifully carved with great detail and expression, some with dangles and open work. Each apprx 8-1/4"T x 5" to 6+"W.

A pair of Meiji Period Japanese bronze vases on stands, overall 12-1/2"H x 5-1/2" in diameter at the widest point. Each vase and stand is made in four parts. The stand is a pierced carved floral design on three legs, the body of the vases are embellished with carved and applied ornaments of birds on floral branches in landscapes, the upper lip of the vase is a geometric incised design. Each vase has two handles cast in the shape of elaborate dragons which suspend down the side from a peg inserted through the side.

An antique Japanese Satsuma censor with lid, in highly hand embellished glazed porcelain, with two handles and a scalloped base, with a Foo dog surmounting the lid, pierced with a hole underneath the Foo dog for smoke, the sides depicting scenes of poets and scholars seated in a garden, surrounded overall with polychrome geometric patterns. A pair of Japanese Satsuma vases, each approx. 4-3/4"H x 4-1/2" in diameter at the widest, in a bulbous shape with a small foot, each surface entirely embellished with figures and designs in polychrome and gilding, with depictions of people, demons, and dragons, with raised enameled accents. The lip of each is simple gilding and the interior a plain rosy ivory glaze. Each has a black and gilt mark on the bottom indicating Royal Satsuma.
