503. A Lobmeyr Table Lamp

An elegant table lamp made by Lobmeyr of Austria, with the original label affixed to the top of the base and two other labels on a fitting at the top. The lamp has four electrified candle arms extending from an open caged form with a circular metal base. The central stem consists of bulbous molded clear glass forms with metal fittings between. The candle arms are decorated with molded glass rosettes and hanging tear shaped drops, the candle holder portions have rippled bobeches and small tear shaped drops. The body of the fixture is embellished with faceted drops, pointed drops, rosettes, and carbachon drops. There is a clear glass sphere hanging down the open center. The finial at the top is molded glass, a fluted rondel and a faceted sphere separated by gilt fittings. The overall height is 26-3/4", and the width from the widest point is 17-1/4". Ludwig Lobmeyr (1855-1917), owner of the Austrian firm J. & L. Lobmeyr came to be known internationally and exhibited at the Paris World’s Fair of 1878.
