1070. An Antique Mantel Clock

An antique mantel clock with architectural detailing, in brown stained wood with hammered and cast detailings and frills in brass-tone metal. The horse at the top has been painted with gold-tone paint. The case has a front opening latched door; the winding key and the pendulum are loose inside. The face of the clock is white enamel with black Roman numerals and black hands, surrounded by a gold metal egg and dart relief design. There is also a smaller beaded gold metal ring between the pieces of enamel. The case is elaborately decorated with brasses tacked on to emulate ormolu, and the pediment is surmounted by the relief image of a rearing horse. The overall size is 24-1/2"H x 12"W x 5-1/4"D. No maker's mark was found.
