| 413. A Scandinavian Silver Heart Box
A wonderful heart-shaped keepsake box with a hinged lid and a decorative pierced finial. The box body decorated with engraved geometric patterns. Silver not tested, no marks found. With the finial measures approx. 3"T x 1-3/4"W x 1-5/8"D. This type of box was typically used throughout Scandinavian countries. Young men would present this type of box filled with aromatic spices to a young lady of choice to indicate his intentions. Large numbers of these containers, in a variety of styles, date from the 18th into the latter part of the 19th century and are often personalised with pin pricked initials and a date. 50/100 Sold $230.00 back to catalog |
