609. A Collection of Belleek Items

A collection of Belleek items, comprised of two "Neptune" teapots, one small (5" diameter) and one large (6" diameter), a three-lobbed "Shamrock" teapot with the Irish harp atop the lid and the handle, 5"W, and one "Shamrock teacup and saucer with the basket weave relief pattern.

Belleek is a glazed parian ware first popularized by McBirney and Artmstrong of Belleek, Ireland in 1863. It is characterized by a pearly luster. The luster is colorless or tinted, the most common colors being pastel pink or green. Belleek ware is very translucent. It has a natural ivory color body that is easily scratched. It is decorated with gold or enamels, or sometimes a slip decoration.
