A lovely mid-19th Century French Pate Sur Pate Lamp, fashioned in two parts connected by brass fittings, in the shape of a double handled urn, with a carved brass base with two griffon feet and two decorative scroll feet, with cast brass handles on either side surmounted by Egyptian Revival heads, the top cap fitted as an oil lamp with pierced brasses and a clear glass hurricane. The body of the lamp in Pate Sur Pate is celadon green with a Greek key design in white enamel around near the base and around the shoulder, and a Neo-Classical basket of fruit and flowers in Minton style on one side and the image of a beautiful young lady dancing and holding a grapevine above her, wearing a short diaphanous dress on the other side. Overall the lamp measures 25" to the top of the hurricane. 700/1,000 back to catalog |
