505. A Staffordshire Toby Jug Made Into A Lamp

A vintage English Toby Jug made into a lamp, 10-5/8"H from the base to the top of the hat, 21-3/4"H to the top of the finial. The original design for this jug is called "Ordinary No. 387". It depicts a smiling "Old Toby" seated with his jug of beverage and his pipe. He wears a tricorn had and a jolly grin. Toby jugs were first made by Ralph Wood in the 1760's and were imitated throughout Staffordshire as well as other parts of England.
