Malevich was an important pioneer in abstract art. His earliest work was founded in Post Impressionism and he gradually adopted Cubism and Futurism while continuing to teach in Moscow and Leningrad. In his desire to "free art from the burden of the object" he founded a movement he called "Suprematist", which would now be considered "Geometric Minimalist". This is a fine example of the earlier style of Cubism and Futurism, perhaps executed by a student of Malevich.
