207. May Chiswell Marshall (American, 1874-1959)

"Fisherman and Their Gear". Watercolor on paper, signed in the lower right corner, matted and framed under glass, approx. 14" x 18", with framing overall 22-1/2" x 26". This loosely painted attractive scene has a typed label on verso with the artist's info. and "First Prize Pacific Northwest Watercolor Exhibit, Seattle Wash. 1946".

May Chiswell Marshall was born 30 April 1874, Fauquier County, VA, died in 1959. Oldest direct descendant (a great-granddaughter) of Chief Justice John Marshall; for 17 years Professor of Art at the University of South Carolina.
