309. Hippolyte Garnery (French, 1783-1857)

"Vue Du Port". Hand colored aquatint and engraving, matted and framed, approx. 14" x 19-1/2". "Print dapres Nature ed Garve par Hippolite Garnerey" engraved at lower left margin. The image depicts an expansive port scene with a large city in the distance. In the foreground an artist in a top hat is seen sketching while a man with a cigar observes. Palm trees and cactus in the foreground provide a sense of the location. Ex-collection: The Austin Company, Cleveland, Ohio. The Austin Company was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1878 by Samuel Austin. The headquarters remain in Cleveland, Ohio. Austin operates through offices located in major U.S. cities and London.
