1068. Japy Freres Mantle Clock & Garniture Set, French, Circa 19th Century

An outstanding gilt bronze clock and candelabra set with hand painted porcelain plaques and medallions depicting young girls and a cherub on the dial. Roman numerals on porcelain dial gilt, with fancy reticulated hands. The movement is stamped "Japy Freres & Co." included are pendulum and key. Clock and candelabra are attached to gilt wood base, which once had a velvet surface, which is now worn away. Base has evidence of gessoe and red clay under the gold. Bottom of base if stamped "D.S." and "883". Candelabra have five lights each, back of bronze stamped 10826. Back of clock stamped 10916. Clock apprx 19"T x 12"W, candelabra apprx 19-3/4"T x 7"W.
