461. Attr: Toyokuni (Japanese, 1769-1825)
A pair of antique Japanese woodblock prints in colors, paper size 13-3/4" x 9-3/4", floated in matting and framed under glass, 18-3/4" x 14-3/4" overall with frame. Each has been tip glued to a paper backing on which the name "Toyokuni" and the numbers 1909/90 are written in pencil below the lower edge of the print. Each is a portrait of a Kabuki actor in front of a landscape/seascape.

462. A Pair of Japanese Ivory and Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Plaques
A lovely pair of low relief ivory and mother-of pearl inlay on black lacquer plaques. Both plaques feature dynamic arrangements. The first one depicts a man in traditional clothes holding a falcon, children and a lotus blossom are on the foreground. Red tinted inlay signature seal tablet with a Japanese symbol on lower right. The second plaque depicts a man carrying a basket with flowers; the man is surrounded with children, birds and flowers; red tinted signature seal inlay tablet on lower left. Both measure approx. 30" x 16-1/2".

464. A Handsome Cloisonne Vase
A handsome bronze cloisonne vase with the column base decorated in flowing geometric patterns and with the bulbous upper portion decorated with images of Irises and leaves. The uppermost part is decorated with repeated geometric forms. No maker's markings found. The vase measures approx. 12"H x 8" in diameter at the widest point. Probably Chinese.

465. A Large Japanese Arabesque Cloisonne Vase
A large Japanese cloisonne on copper baluster shaped vase, approx. 24-1/4"H x 10"W at the shoulder, on a modern oriental carved dark wood base, adding approx. 1" to the height. The body of the vase is decorated in blues, pinks, greens, reds with gold flecks, and yellows. The designs are basically scrolling geometric and floral shapes, and the sides have dragon images on each of six panels.

467. A Sumida Gawa Japanese Oval Ceramic Fern Bowl
An early 20th Century Japanese Sumida Gawa glazed ceramic bowl, of oval form, the outside surrounded by applied ceramic figures of Japanese children. Each child is dressed in a traditional kimono and one wears a woven hat. The flat interior bottom of the bowl is glazed in green and the inner sides in a mottled blue and white. The children appear to be climbing up to peek into the bowl and their kimonos are glazed dark green or in blue on white patterns the lower outside of the bowl is in a rough reddish glaze as is the bottom. The bowl is not marked, and measures 8" x 6" overall x 2-1/4"D.

A Japanese bronze okimono of a tiger after a Meiji period piece by Nyozan Tsukuru, signed by the artist below the stomach, finished in a soft brown patina with black stripes, with nicely detailed fur in relief on several parts and naturalistic details on the bottom of the paws, approx. 11"L overall x 2-1/2"W x 5"H.

All of Shanmu wood from South East China. The first panel has carved flower supports and shapes with round glass medallions. Not stained or finished, apprx 41-1/4" x 41". Second panel has a medium brown stain with carved wood lattice, apprx 39-13/16" x 41-1/4". Third panel of similar carving with reddish stain, slightly smaller measuring apprx 37-1/4" x 38-5/8".

470. A Fine Pair of Chinese Cinnabar Lacquer Boxes
A fine pair of antique Chinese carved cinnabar lacquer boxes, each 5-5/8"W x 3-7/8"D x 2-1/4"H, in an aubergine color, with brass edges at the lip and base of the boxes and on the lip of the lids that has darkened with age. Each box has an intricate landscape with figures, buildings, and rivers carved into the top of the lid, surrounded by meandering flowers and leaves, and the sides are also carved with similar foliage. The undersides of the boxes are also carved with geometric motifs and an image of a fan and a gourd, with a central portion carved with six Chinese characters. One scene is of two seated scholars being served by an attendant with mountains in the distance. The other is of two figures emerging from a boat and two on shore within another mountainous landscape. *On preview in Pittsburgh, PA.
