178. A Colonial Carved Santos of St. Francis of Assisi, ca. Late 18th/Early 19th Century
Wooden sculpture of a Franciscan monk saint. His robe beautifully decorated with gilt pattern over gessoed surface, especially well preserved on the back. Circular compartment on the front for devotional relics. Missing right hand, part of the bible, and left sleeve. Base carved out of the same piece of wood. Overall measures approx. 21-1/2"T.

A carved figurine of a bishop saint, gessoed and painted in polychrome pigments. The maroon color robe with gilt accents. The figure rests on black octagonal base on four feet. Headdress decorated with a removable metal ornament. Overall (without the ornament) measures approx. 19"T.

180. An Italian Carved Marble Torso of a Young Man on a Stand
A beautifully carved white marble torso of a young man on a black wooden stand, ca. 19th Century, possibly a Grand Tour acquisition, with the base approx. 17-1/4"H, the marble fragment approx. 14-3/4"H x 4"D x 6-1/2"W. The fragment lacks the head and most of the arms and legs; the well formed naturalistic shape in a contraposto stance.

"Arbeit Kront". (The Crowning Glory of Work). Bronze set on a mutton fat marble base, signed in the base, also marked on the side of the base by the foundry "Akt.Ges.v.H.Gladenbeck a Sohn Berlin D486". A woman crowned with a laurel wreath holds a sprig of laurel over a seated laborer wearing a leather apron on an anvil holding a sledgehammer. Flowers adorn the side of the anvil. Overall the sculpture measures approx. 20"H x 10" x 7". The marble base is 1-3/4"H.
