219. A Pair of Sterling Silver BonBon Dishes by Black, Starr and Frost

A lovely pair of sterling silver bonbon dishes made by Black, Starr and Frost, New York, each on a low pedestal base, overall 1-1/2"H x 7-1/8" in diameter, with a gracefully flaring outer edge adorned by lillies and ferns in a pierced relief all around, each marked Sterling underneath with the maker's name, #3150, 7-1/8 in, and an American Eagle impression on the bottom. Weighs approx. 22 troy oz. total. *On preview in Pittsburgh, PA.

Black, Starr & Frost began as Marquand & Paulding in Savannah, Georgia ca. 1801. Over the century the firm was related to or succeeded by several partners and names, and became Black, Starr & Frost in 1876. Through later changes such as a merging with Gorham in 1929, and again to Black, Starr & Frost in 1962. The American Eagle is their hallmark.
