370. A 19th Century Kashkul "Beggar's Bowl"

A 19th Century Kashkul "Beggar's Bowl" in an irregular shape, suspended from a hand made chain, metal unknown, the entire surface embellished with hand hammered relief scenes of Ali and Fatima, 7-1/2"W x 2-1/2"D x 5-1/2"H, with out the chain. Used by Sufi holy-men to hold donations.

This kashkul copies the shape of a type of double coconut from the Seychelles regularly washed up on Iranian beaches. Its decoration includes a group of mystics and religious Persian poetry.
