346. An Unusual Clock Framed In A Painting

An unusual painting timepiece. The painting is a panoramic scene painted on a steel panel with several military companies on an embankment before a river. A beautiful city sprawls beyond. To the left of the composition is a church with and elaborate clock in the central clock tower. The actual clock is concealed behind the panel inside a built-up shadow box frame. No signature was found on the painting, but it appears to be a 19th Century Continental piece of excellent quality. The picture measures 22-1/2" x 32-1/2" and with the gilt beaded frame approx. 30" x 40". The clock has a coiled chime, and comes with a winding key. Lever at the bottom pulls down to reveal the winding mechanisms in the tower-when closed three disks cover the openings. Toggle on left of frame to adjust the chime. Pull cord at bottom. The shadow box creates an enhancing sounding box for the chime.
