A pair of hand painted Persian book covers, each framed in a gilt frame with a sloped black velvet liner, 14" x 9" sight size, with framing overall 17-1/4" x 12". Painted in the mid-19th Century Safavid style, each piece is richly adorned with foliate patterning in black, red, cream and gilt accents. Each has a genre scene with two figures within a central medallion surrounded by the patterning that is reminiscent of a Persian carpet.
